Specification Strategies to Eliminate Concrete Moisture
08:00 AM - 09:00 AM
In many projects, installation of floor finishes is one of the last items to occur prior to substantial completion. However, 09 flooring specification sections require moisture testing before flooring can be installed on concrete slabs. When those moisture tests fail, the project faces time delays, unexpected costs, or both. During this presentation, we will: (1) give significant discussion to the importance of “design intent” and how losing focus on what the owner expects can lead to catastrophic, consequences (2) examine several misconceptions associated with field moisture testing and project owner and design team liability associated with concrete moisture induced flooring failure; and (3) we will give clear recommendations as to how the specifying professional can eliminate concrete moisture as a project delivery issue while simultaneously protecting the project owner and design team from project delivery delays/cost overruns and future failed flooring.

How It’s Made: Today’s PVC

10:10 AM - 11:10 AM
PVC products have been around for 100 years. They’re common in the construction industry because of their durability and long life. But old PVC manufacturing practices still cause concern for some of today’s specifiers. This course will address those concerns head-on. We’ll talk about today’s manufacturing processes and how recycling is transforming the industry. You’ll see how PVC resin becomes a strong and beautiful product using the example of vinyl fencing. With the understanding of today’s regulations, collaboration, and green-building practices, you’ll have the confidence to specify today’s PVC products.

Continuous Insulation vs. Cavity Insulation

11:10 AM - 12:10 PM
This course will review an in-depth breakdown of the current uses of insulation in wall assemblies. The attendees will learn more about the differences in the use of cavity insulation versus the use of continuous insulation installed on the exterior of the building sheathing. Discussion points to include the changes of the current energy codes and the requirements for the use of continuous insulation in the majority of future projects. The participant will be able to better evaluate their current wall assemblies and understand the requirements that are dictated by current codes.

Unearthing Stability: The Advantages of Helical Piles and What to Look for in a Manufacturer

01:10 PM - 02:10 PM
Helical piles are becoming the industry’s choice for supporting structures. With decades of testing and real-time capacity calculations, engineers, architects, and contractors can feel confident in specifying helical piles no matter the soil or building type.
Not all helical piles are made the same. In addition to benefits, applications, and installation, this course will provide you with what to look for in a helical-pile manufacturer, including:
