Prefabricated Ornamental Railing and Its Role in Improving Accessibility within the Built Environment
12:10 PM - 01:10 PM
Stair railing designed for use in public spaces must comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The main concerns with ADA revolve around safety, accessibility, and usability for people with disabilities in public spaces. Universal Design (UD) is a design philosophy that is broader in scope than the requirements of the ADA. In this course, we will review the key issues and requirements of improving accessibility in both private and public spaces, discussing best practices in railing system design.

Signage Specifications with the Occupant in Mind, Addressing ADA and Code Standards
01:45 PM - 02:45 PM
The moment you truly notice a building's signage is often when you're lost—scanning for a logo while driving or wandering hallways in search of your friend's apartment. Wayfinding is a crucial function of signs, especially in large buildings like airports and hospitals. But designers must consider much more in signage specification. This course will: -Share the four types of signage and their role in the occupant’s experience. -Review code compliance that contributes to safety and accessibility dictated by local municipalities and ADA standards. -Discuss the importance of brand consistency throughout all sign elements. -Demonstrate the latest software tools to manage the many parts of the signage package, the detailed schedule, and real-time communication.
