Sustainable Exterior Envelope

08:05 AM - 09:05 AM

This course focuses on the effect biological and physical agents have on the wood substrate of the exterior building envelope. After reviewing these agents, you will learn how proper installation and best building practices can limit the exposure these agents can pose to your project. Durable wood substrates will also be discussed with a comparison of popular man-made durability agents used to further protect the exterior envelope.

Building Barrier-Free Showers

11:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Mandated requirements for ADA compliancy, and demand from an aging population, is creating a growing need for barrier-free bathrooms. Today's ADA compliant bathroom no longer has to be utilitarian or institutional in its design. Design options are enhanced through the use of tile and innovative construction methods. The result is glamorous and durable bathrooms that adhere to ADA standards for accessible design. This seminar will examine ways in which barrier-free environments can be customized to include various design elements while remaining ADA compliant. This seminar will also address why bonded waterproofing technology lends itself to the construction requirements of barrier-free design.

Audiovisual ArchiTechnology for Today’s Meeting Spaces

12:50 PM - 01:50 PM

The hotel and meetings industry just made a quantum leap into the future of meeting & event technology with the shift from all face-to-face, in-person meetings to 100% virtual using Zoom, WebEx, and similar platforms. Now that face-to-face meetings have returned, we need to accommodate “Hybrid” events where the event content is streamed to remote attendees and participants in the meeting. As we’ll see and you’ve probably already experienced, this is challenging our technology resources and space capacities. In this experiential workshop, you will see and hear the impact of good and bad environments for technology-enabled meetings & events. We will explore the impact that interior design has on the effectiveness of today’s event technologies. And how the room and technology design can impact guest’s experience of stress, intelligibility, effectiveness, and ultimately impact the ROI of the event.

Take Advantage of Your Vertical Surfaces: Building-Integrated Photovoltaics

01:50 PM - 02:50 PM

To effectively combat climate change, we need to acknowledge the role that the building industry plays in global CO2 emissions. We need to shift not only how we think about designing our buildings but also powering our communities. This course will discuss how BIPVs can be integrated into both new and old buildings to improve performance and aesthetics and lower energy costs. In this one-hour course, we will discuss the value of BIPVs as both a high-performance building material and green energy-generating solar panels. The various systems BIPV can be integrated into. As well as the various benefits that building owners can realize by integrating BIPV into their projects.
