Acoustic Door Assemblies and Their Role in Sound Control

08:05 AM - 09:05 AM

Sound control is a critical element to a building’s design. How an occupant will use the space must be understood in order to deliver a healthy and functional environment free of noise. Is speech privacy important? Is this a learning environment? Does the office open to a manufacturing floor? We all think of the walls, ceiling, and floor when discussing sound attenuation. But we must not overlook the importance of an acoustic-door assembly. Without the proper acoustic door, the sound-control goals in an acoustic plan may not be met. This course will review healthy sound levels and how to test and identify target STC ratings. We’ll discuss the elements of the acoustic-door assembly and how the assembly addresses fire-ratings and ADA compliance, contributes to LEED certification and green building, and provides security for classified files and electronic data.

Sustainable Exterior Envelope

09:10 AM - 10:10 AM

This course focuses on the effect biological and physical agents have on the wood substrate of the exterior building envelope. After reviewing these agents, you will learn how proper installation and best building practices can limit the exposure these agents can pose to your project. Durable wood substrates will also be discussed with a comparison of popular man-made durability agents used to further protect the exterior envelope.

Western Red Cedar, Distinctive Sustainable Design

11:35 AM - 12:35 PM

The Western Red Cedar Lumber Association (WRCLA) is a Non-Profit trade association that was established in 1954. We offer training to discerning users of WRC including the architect community. Western Red Cedar Distinctive Sustainable Designs is a one-hour, face-to-face training session developed for the architect community and provided by WRCLA qualified trainers. Through this one hour session, architects will increase their knowledge of WRC; its' properties and performance characteristics.

The Benefits of 100% Offsite Fabricated Stainless Steel Railing Systems

12:50 PM - 01:50 PM

Explore the advantages of integrating 100% offsite fabrication into the design of the ornamental railing you specify in your architectural projects.

When compared to local fabrication, Offsite fabrication of custom-designed railing systems not only dramatically improves product quality, it also minimizes project waste, reduces product costs, and streamlines construction processes. Offsite Fabrication = Value Engineering!

In this presentation you will learn how architects, designers, and engineers can reduce overall project costs and improve project outcomes by specifiying architectural products which have been custom-designed to precisely fit each project, and then prefabricated to completion offsite, while helping builders and contractors achieve greater efficiency.

New Principles in Hospitality Design Using Opening Glass Walls

01:50 PM - 02:50 PM

This course is part of a series that looks at the ways that the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way that people look at the built environment. This course in particular focuses on the retail and hospitality sector including stores, restaurants, hotels, and similar building types. The changing views of people who manage or are patrons of these facilities are directly impacting the ways that buildings are being designed. That has been demonstrated by architects and other design professionals who are stepping up to address changing criteria with innovation and an enhanced focus on health, safety, and welfare issues. Within this changing situation, large operable glass walls have emerged as a durable, flexible, and sustainable solution, particularly in the hospitality realm. While they are commonly used to separate indoor and outdoor spaces on exterior walls or provide flexible, acoustically controlled interior spaces, operable glass walls have taken on an important new role in helping to separate and protect people too. Architects that are partnering with manufacturers and providers of these innovative, flexible systems are emerging as leaders in creating safe, responsive built environments.
