Stunning Facades with Sintered Stone

08:10 AM - 09:10 AM
Designing a building facade, whether commercial, residential, new, or retrofit, can be both artistically enjoyable and technically complex. With an array of impressive characteristics, sintered stone helps create lighter, stronger, more durable, and more sustainable buildings. This course will demonstrate why Sintered Stone is a product of choice as it can provide the artistic appeal, technical performance, and sustainability for green construction to satisfy the wide range of needs for successful and stunning facade design.

Fleece Membranes and Urethanes Adhesive – Industry Leading Performance
11:30 AM - 12:30 PM
In this program, the participants will learn the physical performance advantages of fleece membranes that enable them to resist the forces of mother nature such as wind, hail, rain, and cold. In addition, they will learn the performance advantages of urethane adhesives that eliminate the dependence on solvents with VOCs or asphalt derived from foreign sources of oil. Several re-roofing advantages afforded by fleece membranes will be covered where you can re-use existing roofing systems and minimize landfill waste. Multiple-ply membrane options utilizing highly reflective TPO or extremely weatherable EPDM as the cap sheet will also be covered.

The Uncoupling Principle

02:10 PM - 03:10 PM
This seminar will examine the Uncoupling Principle, which is now recognized in the Tile Council
of America's 2001 Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation.
Review the history behind the Uncoupling Principle and examine the evolution of tile setting
techniques, along with the benefits and limitations of each stage of development.
The individual functions that are inherent to an uncoupling system will be discussed and the
major implications for tile and stone installations revealed.
At the end of this program, the participant will be able to: 1) comprehend the basics of the
uncoupling principle and its relationship to the tile and stone industry; 2) recognize new areas of
installation that can be attained through the utilization of an uncoupling system; and 2) interpret
and apply the new details and applications found in the current TCA Handbook.

LEED Pilot Credit #103: Integrative Analysis of Building Materials

04:30 PM - 05:30 PM
In the materials selection process, builders seek to balance numerous product performance attributes, including durability, aesthetics and health, safety and environmental impacts. Transparency and life cycle thinking are central components of a robust materials selection process, one that enables builders to choose the most appropriate materials for their project. The U.S. Green Building Council now offers an innovative LEED pilot credit (#103), Integrative Analysis of Building Materials, to encourage building project teams to evaluate products and materials using available life cycle information to identify those that have positive environmental, health and safety impacts. The credit informs project team decisions by providing access to information shared by building materials manufacturers on their product’s life cycle impacts.
