Code Compliant Exterior Systems for Wood Framed Building Envelopes

08:00 AM - 09:00 AM

This course investigates the most recent code changes emphasizing building envelope performance. We will explore next generation integrated solutions that simultaneously provide protection against moisture penetration, air leakage, and thermal bridging. Installation benefits and on-site quality control issues related to multi-solution integrated systems will also be evaluated.

Fire-Retardant-Treated Wood in Today's Building Code

10:15 AM - 11:15 AM

This session is a discussion of fire-retardant-treated wood's technical characteristics and building code-related applications. Emphasis is placed on the testing and labeling required by the International Building Code. The building code, as with many products, regulates the use of wood in construction. Two broad categories separate materials: combustible and noncombustible. Codes limit the applications of combustible materials on the basis of fire and life safety. The question is then, are there options available to using wood in lieu of a noncombustible material. Fire Retardant Treated Wood (FRTW) provides that option. Codes recognize FRTW for many applications where a noncombustible material is mandated.

Benefits of Impermeable Concrete & Permanent Impermeable Repair Materials

11:15 AM - 12:15 PM

This Program addresses the impact of traditional & impermeable concrete inside & outside the building envelope. It discusses methods to improve longevity and consequently sustainability of all concrete applications. It provides a solution to the moisture & flooring problems as well as water and damp proofing concrete. Techniques and materials used to permanently repair concrete are discussed.

Levels of Finish and How to Achieve Level 5

01:15 PM - 02:15 PM

This 1-hour presentation identifies the various levels in which gypsum board surface is finished for the particular board application and final decoration. Each level of finish is defined per ASTM C840 and presented in discussion, details and samples to establish a clear visualization of these levels of board finish. A new and extraordinary “level of finish” is introduced and examined as a “Basis of Specification” for your more demanding design and board finish requirements.
