Sound Control in Construction 18 old

08:00 AM - 09:00 AM

This course defines the importance of sound control in the building industry where proper design can help avoid Litigation & Remediation. We will discuss building code criteria including the International Building Code (IBC-1207) and the International Residential Code. We will Identify areas where sound control is necessary for wall & floor/ceiling assemblies. We will then offer an explanation of terminologies including: STC, IIC, NRC, Use Patterns and Flanking Sound. The mechanisms of sound transmission and its attenuation will be discussed including: Mass, Double Leaf Construction, Field Damped Mass, Decoupling, Unbalancing, Coincidence Effect and Sound Masking.

Moisture Management for Multi-Family, Mix-Use and Light Commercial

01:15 PM - 02:15 PM

Moisture damage contributes to 90% of all building and building material failures; making the management of moisture key to building longevity. The course will discuss the movement of moisture, cover some keys design issues, a better and best solution for moisture control, and how to integrate moisture control with exterior continuous insulation. After the course participants will have more tools for wall detailing.

Learning Objectives:
• Describe how moisture impacts building durability and define the mechanics of moisture movement.
• Identify common design details that can cause issues for moisture management.
• Write better specifications for moisture control utilizing better and best methods and have ASTM standard to reference for flashing openings.
• Understand the integration of a moisture control layer with exterior continuous insulation.

OLD - Semi-underground waste management solution

04:30 PM - 05:30 PM

Solid Waste & Recycling: The Semi-Underground Advantage For the past 24-years, semi-underground containers for solid waste & recycling collection have shifted the paradigm of traditional waste and recycling systems around the world. This course focuses on the many advantages of semi-underground collection, and the benefits that they bring from a site design perspective. We will focus on the key value features of appearance, convenience, and capacity. We will further elaborate on how these key features can increase your available building space, allow for additional parking amenities, create better traffic flow, and allow for more landscaping opportunities, all while creating a more useable and safer waste and recycling collection system. And did we mention that semi-underground systems can contribute to your LEED designation while lowering your capital and operating costs?
