Fire-Retardant Treated Wood and the International Building Code

9:00 am - 10:00 am

This in-depth presentation on fire-retardant treated wood (FRTW) focuses on its characteristics, properties, and performance in a fire as well as its preparation, treatment, inspection, and labeling. Fire tests, standards, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification in LEED projects and building code requirements related to FRTW will be covered. Details and examples will be provided on where FRTW is used and what impact it's use has on construction and insurance costs. In addition, International Building Code sections referencing fire-retardant treated wood will be discussed. Technical literature will be provided to all attendees.

Sound Control in Construction

1:15 pm - 2:15 pm

This course defines the importance of sound control in the building industry where proper design can help avoid Litigation & Remediation. We will discuss building code criteria including International Building Code (IBC-1207) and International Residential Code.We will Identify areas where sound control is necessary in wall & floor/ceiling assemblies. We will then offer an explanation of terminologies including: STC, IIC, NRC, Use Patterns and Flanking Sound. The mechanisms of sound transmission and its attenuation will be discussed including: Mass, Double Leaf Construction, Field Damped Mass, Decoupling, Unbalancing, Coincidence Effect and Sound Masking.

Integrally Troweled Cure & Polish Concrete

2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

This program addresses the need to properly cure and finish concrete. Discusses the current ACI recommendations and the new technology that allows dramatic time savings while Increasing quality of the finished product. Education in advanced concrete technology with the use of the power trowel alone to create a unique architectural finished product. Education in advanced methods to expose aggregate and ultra high gloss are also shown. This unique system also eliminates moisture loss which reduces cracking and seals the surface so effectively there is no additional need for moisture mitigation
