Sound Control in Construction

9:00 am - 10:00 am

This course defines the importance of sound control in the building industry where proper design can help avoid Litigation & Remediation. We will discuss building code criteria including International Building Code (IBC-1207) and International Residential Code.We will Identify areas where sound control is necessary in wall & floor/ceiling assemblies. We will then offer an explanation of terminologies including: STC, IIC, NRC, Use Patterns and Flanking Sound. The mechanisms of sound transmission and its attenuation will be discussed including: Mass, Double Leaf Construction, Field Damped Mass, Decoupling, Unbalancing, Coincidence Effect and Sound Masking.

Challenge & Solutions for Tile Installation

11:15 am - 12:15 pm

This seminar will present the fundamentals of modern waterproofing technology and how it compares to traditional waterproofing systems, coordination of trim profiles to improve the integrity of tile installations, and the examination of the Uncoupling Principle with a focus on individual functions that are inherent to an uncoupling system. Learning Objectives: 1. Identify the benefits and challenges associated with tiled showers. Identify the trim profiles and understand their basic design and function. Comprehend the basics of the uncoupling principle and its relationship to the tile and stone industry. 2. Understand the proper design and execution of tiled shower waterproofing systems. Diagnose common transition issues and learn how to select proper edge protection treatments. Recognize new areas of installation that can be attained through the utilization of an uncoupling system. 3. Recognize the benefits of bonded waterproofing technology and how it has revolutionized tiled showers. Understand the need for movement joints in tile assemblies based on current industry standards. Interpret and apply the new details and applications found in the current TCNA Handbook. 4. How to create a fully waterproof and vapor tight enclosure. Understand how to incorporate trim profiles into specific ceramic tile and dimension stone tile applications. How to protect the integrity of any tile installation.
