1. Understand how to design SIP high-performance building envelopes with low framing factors and minimal thermal bridging to eliminate the need of continuous insulation for above-code energy-efficiency compliance.
2. Achieve superior indoor air quality (IAQ) and thermal comfort benefits by designing to extremely tight whole building air-leakage rates of less than 0.6 air changes/hour for minimal outside air infiltration.
3. Discuss the basics of SIP composition, common engineering methods, applicable codes and standards, and how they achieve today's sustainable design mandates.
4. Explore the product life-cycle benefits and low embodied carbon nature of SIPs over conventional framing technologies.

KathyThe presentation had numerous short-comings. It gave energy efficiencies and use credits, but did not mention any increases in facility insurance costs [does foam increase fire damage? does integrity of walls suffer from % of wood in fire loss ? Does rebuild from fire and water damage cost more? Do all SIP facilities require extra sprinklers ? ] There was a statement that doorways do not need 'extra' framing. This is a terribly wrong statement. Why not just leave doors unlocked then. There was no mention about compounded wind and snow loads; or Earthquake and live and dead loads in multi-story structures; except for "standards exist in details on how these can be transferred". It is also obvious that all SIP facilities have to be on a fixed concrete foundation and not on piers, because of wind considerations. I do see some value for insulation, sound, and quicker partition construction, but support walls need some other materials to tie transferring loads into a concrete foundation.
DORIANI'm guessing the T/F quiz question regarding 5/8 GWB at each side of the SIP panel is a question that I missed... Technically, as indicated in the seminar and clarified in the questions segment, it is TWO LAYERS of the GWB that achieves the 1HR fire rating.
PeterNice presentation, good balance of technical information with design information.
Thomasna
MichelleClear course content. It would have been a bit more helpful to learn about how a SIPS wall would ideally be designed - ie combining SIPS with the other elements like drainage plane, interior finish etc. Although the course touches on this by mentioning them, it would be more helpful as a learning element to see how to integrate it through a section detail for example, rather than a section detail of the SIPs panel all on its own.

RachelVery good presentation, with a lot of information displayed. However, there was not enough time for note-taking, (for someone like me, who wants to read while taking notes.) Even taking screen shots means I miss some of the verbal presentation. Some of the quiz questions covered information I missed while reading the slides. Would just like more time on each slide. I'm too detail-oriented and slow. Ask my employers. Regardless of my own need for more time, I'm selecting a rating of "5" below, thinking that is the highest.
