Learning Objectives

1. Learn how moldings, used correctly, have the power to change the way people experience a room. We need to understand how moldings were made in early America. Doing so will help us understand how moldings have lost their art over the last 60 years in America and what next steps we can do to re-introduce this art form into everyday design.

2. Learn how to specify historic moldings utilizing today's materials for lasting results and satisfied clients. You will focus on what you can do to ensure that products are installed correctly and do not fail prematurely.

3. Understand the origin of classic molding design. You will look at the moldings themselves: how they used to be made, and how they're made now. It's true the art of molding manufacture and design has been lost. Seeing how early builders used to design and craft moldings will give you a new respect for the skills and knowledge they had. Explore how proper scale and proportion played a key role in all of the elements of design that we use today.

4. Rediscover the lost art of crafting moldings. You will be shown five historical American styles and examples of moldings associated with each. Using these historical examples, today's homes can utilize the classic.

Reviving The Lost Art of Moldings

FREE

Why does a room feel right when you walk into it? What's the significance of scale and proportion? Have we lost our "design" roots? This AIA continuing education program touches on these issues and more, looking back to the Greek's, the evolution of moldings, and why they make such an impact on any building project. Understand why moldings play such an important role in the design of structures, making them ascetically pleasing while creating an emotional response.
